List videos are often viewed as ‘cheap’ and ’easy’ content. And people often use them for affiliate marketing. But we need to make sure they add value to the audience and here are tips to help.

I received an email from a company today to sign up for a webinar they were running, and I had a quick look at their site to see how they were promoting and using webinar recordings. I’m not sure their strategy works well. Here is what I found.

Webinar sign up pages are often provided by the webinar companies and there may not be much you can do about them.

I have tried numerous approaches to video transcription and I think I’ve narrowed down my strategy and options. I primarily use online tools now.

Having created a video, I want a call to action image that plays after the video is complete, and I want this to be standardised for a lot of my videos.

I can do that with ffmpeg

I want to create IGTV videos without any extra video editing, and with a few additional ffmpeg commands, and by creating a header image, I can do that.

I release a lot of videos. They tend to be ’evergreen’ which means I want to promote them for a long time.

To do that I really need a transcription of the video.

I want to create smaller excerpts of my YouTube videos. I upload these small videos to Linkedin, Twitter and Instagram. And they will drive traffic to the main video on YouTube.

And I want to do that without any extra video editing.

I’ve been using a Mac more and I’ve noticed that the mp4 files generated by Camtasia on the mac are much bigger than those generated on the PC.

A recent conference talk recording was output at 5.74 gig which meant I couldn’t upload on my Vimeo plan so I had to find a way to compress the file.

I’ve never made a lot of money from YouTube. The YouTube revenue has probably paid for the software and hardware that I use to create videos. But this made me stop and think about my video strategy.
